Associate Professor in the Computer Sciences Department at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and researcher with the Human Language and Accessibility Technologies HULAT) Group, Moreno holds a Doctorate in Computer Science and Technology from the UC3M and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematical Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid. Currently, she is doing a year-long stay in the Computer Science department at the University of York, UK.
Moreno is the Chair of the Human-Computer Interaction Association (AIPO) in Spain, a member of the General Council of the Spanish Computer Sciences Society (SCIE), and secretary of the SCIE’s governing body. Additionally, she has been the Vice Chair of CHISPA, the Spanish chapter of the ACM-SIGCHI, which is an ACM Special Interest Group on Human-Computer Interaction. Since 2022, she has been an expert member of the “International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Technical Committee on Human–Computer Interaction (IFIP TC13)".
Moreno teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at UC3M’s Higher Polytechnic School. She is the deputy director of the Computer Science department. In addition, she participates in numerous Disability, Design for All, and Accessibility initiatives at both the UC3M and other Spanish universities. She collaborates with the Spanish Center for Subtitling and Audio Description (CESyA, a reference public service organization in the field of accessibility in Spain, as a research fellow and participates in endeavors to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education for girls.
Moreno’s research is focused on the design, development, and validation of accessible technology aimed at users with disabilities (sensory, physical, and cognitive) across a range of fields (education, public administration, health, etc.). Her research combines Human-Computer Interaction with Natural Language Processing, using interdisciplinary approaches. Moreover, Moreno’s research focuses on user-centered design and incorporates experience and knowledge of how technology is used by a wide range of user groups with disabilities.
Co-author of articles published in high-profile journals, Moreno has, over the last 15 years, participated in numerous scientific forums that have had their minutes indexed by prestigious academic publishers. She is also the co-editor of Interacción journal, the official publication of the Human-Computer Interaction Association (AIPO). She belongs to the editorial board of the impact journals such as Journal of Web Engineering and Interacting with Computers. All these publications and contributions are in the field of accessibility to technologies. For years she has collaborated with organizations transferring the research developed. She participates in national and European research projects in the field of technology and accessibility
At present, she is the main researcher of the projects: ACCESS2CITIZEN (Aprobado en Real Decreto 670/2022 de 1 agosto) and ACCESS2MEET project (PID2020-116527RB-I00- call 2020 Knowledge Generation Projects and Research Challenges). In the ACCESS2CITIZEN project, accessibility support is investigated and implemented in the telematic access of the public administration and specifically in the mobile apps and web pages of the emergency services (emergency number 112). The ACCESS2MEET project investigates cognitive and sensory accessibility to videoconferencing systems studied with a multidisciplinary approach, based on the shared scientific knowledge that methods from areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Human Machine Interaction can offer. She is the main researcher of the EASIER project, whose objective is to develop innovative technological solutions using Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning methods that improve access to clear, simple, and Easy-to-Read content for people with intellectual disabilities in a specific way, and to all people in general. The research work is financed by the Indra company and the Universia Foundation.
Moreno also belongs to the Spanish Standardisation and Certification Association’s (AENOR) AEN 71/SC36/GT 12 Committee which drafted the UNE standard on the quality of digital educational materials (PNE 71362: 2020).
