Madrid City Council has launched a mobile application that allows people with visual disabilities to enjoy the traditional Christmas lights. This App has been developed and validated by researchers from the HULAT group of the Computer Science Department of the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M).
"Navidad Accesible" app, which is free and available on Android and iOS, allows you to take a guided tour of the Christmas lights based on an audio-description system, i.e., auxiliary audios that tell the visually impaired what is being shown in front of them. This application works when the user activates his phone's location system near the lights included in the route. At that moment, the geolocation system is activated and the audio description is reproduced, providing the user with information about the scenes represented by the lighting, the colors, the sensations it conveys and additional data about its creation and designers. In addition, each of the lights can also be consulted on demand and a textual description and a representative photograph of each of the lights is included.
