he PlainHealth project builds on the results of the previous project ACCESS2MEET (PID2020-116527RB-I00) https://access2meet.uc3m.es/, funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) and completed in March 2025. ACCESS2MEET developed and validated a modular videoconferencing platform designed to improve equitable participation for people with intellectual or sensory disabilities, as well as older adults with comprehension difficulties, in digital services such as education and healthcare.
See "A Tool Suite for Cognitive Accessibility Leveraging Easy-to-Read Resources and Simplification Strategies" https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3729/d26_rev.pdf.
PlainHealth is structured as a configurable, modular suite, deployable to make healthcare communication easier and more accessible across four real-world healthcare scenarios:
👉 Remote consultations : subtitles, accessible chat, and automatic dual reports (clinical and plain-language patient).
👉 In-person consultations : voice dictation that produces the official clinical note plus a plain-language patient summary.
👉 Residential care : accessible multimodal interfaces that support communication between residents, relatives, and staff.
👉 Accessibility-barrier contexts: voice assistants that simplify interaction for people with low literacy or limited access to standard digital tools.
Lourdes Moreno is the Principal Invstigator of the project and we have three key collaborators who provide essential domain knowledge, access to user groups, real-world validation environments, and technical and strategic feedback: Fundación Hospitalarias, ADD informática and Cruz Roja Española.
